The control tower in an airport is a tall building
from where all the flight commands are given out. No pilot makes a move until
the control tower clears for takeoff. No airplane even taxis on the run way
without approval. An airplane can also remain in the air and not land until
cleared to land. This is because there are many airplanes in the air at the
same time. You may not see them but there are. You will know this when you stay
in the airport for a while and see planes landing in quick succession. If the
control tower makes a mistake or if a pilot decided not to heed the instruction
from the control tower, there would definitely be a collision of airplanes.
Also the weather factor is communicated to the cockpit crew by the control
tower to avert turbulence and crash.
As children of God, we have a control tower. Heaven
is our control tower and God is in charge. However to make it much easier for
us, He sent His Holy Spirit in our hearts so we don’t look up to a geographical
heaven but listen to the voice of God in our spirit. It is important that we
seek Divine approval and direction before embarking on anything or taking any
decision. Most times in the story about King David, you will always see “…and
David enquired of the Lord…” He knew the importance of the control tower so he
never makes a move without it. Once when he moved without God’s clearance
against a very small army, his army was defeated. It is not the size of the
task or the weight of the decision that determines what you do. God cares about
the little details of your life and would like to direct you aright. Do you
know that listening to God can make you not eat a food that can harm you? Even
when the airplane indices show the airplane is ready to land, clearance still
has to come from the control tower. You might think the decision is an easy one
but if the Holy Spirit tells you not to go ahead, DON’T.
How can you get instruction from the control tower
when you are not yet connected to the control tower? We will look at this
subsequently
